The Marks of a Generous Church

24 May

Special topic: The Marks of a Generous Church (2 Cor. 8:1–9)

Because God has been overwhelmingly generous to us in Christ, this topic explores how the church is called to live with open hands—sharing our time, gifts, love, and resources so that others may experience God’s grace. (Note: study questions for the message are released on the church’s sermon page on the Monday after each sermon, and to find them, go here and scroll until you find the Sunday listed: https://wcc.org.au/podcasts/media/series.)

Reflection/Discussion Questions (for website)

  2. What are some of the different forms of generosity described in Scripture besides financial giving?

  1. The Macedonian churches gave generously even in poverty (2 Cor. 8). What does this teach us about the relationship between generosity, joy, and trust in God?
  2. Jesus says we cannot serve both God and money (Mat. 6:24). Why do you think money has such a powerful influence over people’s hearts and priorities?

Personal Application

  1. In what area of your life might God be inviting you to grow in generosity—time, hospitality, encouragement, service, prayer, or finances?
  2. What is one practical way you could practise generosity this week toward someone in your church, neighbourhood, or workplace?
